Papakura MP Judith Collins has congratulated Counties-Manukau Police following the raid on a major drugs ring in South Auckland today – resulting in 20 arrests for a variety of drug dealing charges.
“These arrests would not have been possible without the dedication and diligence of Police officers who work tirelessly to protect our neighbourhoods from organised crime,” says Ms Collins.
“This operation will no doubt have an impact on the amount of drugs available on the streets of Papakura and Counties-Manukau. I’d like to congratulate all those involved.”
Operation Pontoon saw more than 120 Police staff move in on ten addresses in Papakura and Takanini to seize cannabis, marijuana, methamphetamine and stolen goods.
Ms Collins, who is also Minister of Police, says the operation sends a clear message to criminal gangs and those who sell drugs.
“The Government and Police are committed to getting drugs off our streets and bringing peace and safety back to our communities.”
Over the past year the Government has introduced a raft of new policies aimed at tackling gangs and the methamphetamine trade.
Ms Collins says an increased Police presence alongside tougher penalties for offenders has increased the Government’s capacity to fight criminal activity in our communities.
“The message to criminal gangs is clear: the Government and Police are coming after your business and will use every tool at our disposal to destroy it,” Ms Collins said.
